Marinating enhances the feta’s flavor and creates a delicious, aromatic oil infused with herbs and spices.
Ingredients
Cheese
- 8 ounces creamy feta in the brine
Marinade
- ½ cup extra virgin olive oil, plus extra if needed
- 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced
- 3 to 4 dry chilies
- 1 to 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 to 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
- Zest of 1 lemon
Instructions
- Slice the Feta: Cut the feta cheese into thick cubes and place them carefully into a mason jar to prepare for marinating.
- Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl, mix together ½ cup extra virgin olive oil with the thinly sliced jalapeño, dry chilies, dried oregano, chopped parsley, and lemon zest to create the flavorful marinade.
- Combine Feta and Marinade: Pour the olive oil mixture over the feta cubes in the jar. If necessary, add more olive oil to ensure the feta is covered by at least half an inch to fully marinate the cheese.
- Marinate: Seal the jar tightly with a lid and refrigerate for at least 1 day to allow the flavors to meld and intensify.
- Serve: Before serving, bring the marinated feta to room temperature for the best taste and serve with toasted bread or pita chips as a delicious appetizer.
Notes
- Marinate the feta for at least 24 hours to develop the best flavor.
- You can adjust the heat level by varying the amount of jalapeño and dry chilies.
- Store refrigerated and consume within one week for freshness.
- Use the flavored olive oil as a drizzle over salads or grilled vegetables for extra taste.
