Description

Honey Walnut Baklava Cheesecake is a delectable dessert that beautifully combines the flaky, nutty goodness of traditional baklava with the rich, creamy texture of cheesecake. This fusion treat features layers of buttery phyllo dough and spiced walnut filling, topped with a smooth cream cheese mixture and finished with a drizzle of honey and crunchy walnut garnish.

Ingredients

Baklava Layers

  • 1 ½ cups crushed walnuts
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed

Cheesecake Filling

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Topping

  • 1 cup honey
  • Additional walnuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the baklava layers.
  2. Prepare Walnut Mixture: In a bowl, combine the crushed walnuts with melted butter and ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly and set aside; this mixture will be layered between the phyllo sheets.
  3. Prepare Phyllo Dough: Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp towel to prevent it from drying out while assembling the layers.
  4. Layer Phyllo Sheets: Grease a 9-inch springform pan. Layer 5 sheets of phyllo dough in the pan, brushing each sheet generously with melted butter to ensure flakiness and richness.
  5. Add Walnut Filling: Spread half of the prepared walnut mixture evenly over the layered phyllo sheets.
  6. Repeat Phyllo and Walnut Layers: Add another 5 sheets of phyllo, buttering each layer, then spread the remaining walnut mixture over this layer.
  7. Final Phyllo Layer: Finish with a final layer of 5 phyllo sheets, buttering each one thoroughly to create a golden crust.
  8. Bake Baklava Base: Bake the assembled baklava layers in the oven for 20 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  9. Prepare Cheesecake Filling: While the base bakes, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the lemon juice for brightness.
  10. Add Cheesecake Layer and Bake: Pour the cheesecake filling over the hot baklava base once it comes out of the oven. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until the cheesecake layer is set and slightly golden on top.
  11. Cool and Add Honey Topping: Remove the cheesecake from the oven and allow it to cool completely. Drizzle the top generously with honey syrup to enhance the sweetness and flavor profile.
  12. Chill and Garnish: Refrigerate the cheesecake for at least 4 hours to fully chill and set. Before serving, garnish with additional walnuts for added texture and decoration.

Notes

  • To prevent the phyllo from drying out, always keep it covered with a damp towel during assembly.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the cheesecake after chilling to get clean slices.
  • You can toast the walnuts lightly to enhance their flavor before crushing.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for a smoother filling.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
