Description

A bold and flavorful homemade fire cider made with apple cider vinegar, fresh herbs, citrus, ginger, garlic, and warming spices. This traditional tonic is spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and easy to customize for a refreshing and vibrant homemade remedy.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup fresh ginger, chopped
  • 8 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh horseradish, grated
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 hot peppers, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh turmeric, chopped
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 sprigs rosemary or thyme
  • 1 tbsp black peppercorns

Instructions

  1. Wash and roughly chop all fresh ingredients.
  2. Place ginger, garlic, onion, horseradish, turmeric, citrus slices, herbs, hot peppers, and black peppercorns into a large glass jar.
  3. Pour apple cider vinegar over the ingredients until fully covered.
  4. Seal the jar tightly with a non-metal lid or place parchment paper under the lid to prevent corrosion.
  5. Store the jar in a cool, dark place for 3 to 4 weeks.
  6. Shake the jar every few days to help the flavors blend.
  7. After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bottle or jar.
  8. Stir in honey until fully combined.
  9. Store refrigerated and serve cold or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of hot peppers or horseradish to control the heat level.
  • Add cinnamon sticks or cloves for a warmer spice flavor.
  • Fresh herbs provide brighter flavor, but dried herbs can also be used.
  • Do not boil the fire cider to preserve its fresh flavor.
  • Store in sealed glass bottles or jars in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
  • Shake well before serving because natural separation may occur.
