Description

A quick and budget-friendly take on classic Philly cheesesteaks made with juicy ground beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted cheese served in warm hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 68 slices provolone or American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms (optional, sliced)
  • Hot peppers (optional)
  • Cheese sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil.
  2. Sauté sliced onions and bell peppers until soft and lightly golden, then set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart until browned.
  4. Drain excess fat if needed, then add garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Return onions and peppers to the skillet and mix with the beef.
  6. Place cheese slices over the mixture and let them melt into the beef.
  7. Lightly toast the hoagie rolls.
  8. Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the rolls.
  9. Add optional toppings like mushrooms or hot peppers if desired.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a lighter alternative.
  • Use cheese sauce instead of slices for a more classic cheesesteak feel.
  • Store filling separately to avoid soggy bread.
  • Customize with different cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
