A quick and budget-friendly take on classic Philly cheesesteaks made with juicy ground beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted cheese served in warm hoagie rolls.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion (sliced)
- 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 6–8 slices provolone or American cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil
- 1 cup mushrooms (optional, sliced)
- Hot peppers (optional)
- Cheese sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil.
- Sauté sliced onions and bell peppers until soft and lightly golden, then set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart until browned.
- Drain excess fat if needed, then add garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Return onions and peppers to the skillet and mix with the beef.
- Place cheese slices over the mixture and let them melt into the beef.
- Lightly toast the hoagie rolls.
- Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the rolls.
- Add optional toppings like mushrooms or hot peppers if desired.
- Serve hot and enjoy.

- Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a lighter alternative.
- Use cheese sauce instead of slices for a more classic cheesesteak feel.
- Store filling separately to avoid soggy bread.
