Description

A fun and delicious frozen treat that combines ripe bananas, rich dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter, crunchy nuts, and optional caramel and sea salt, perfect as a refreshing and indulgent dessert.

Ingredients

Banana Sandwiches

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

Coating and Toppings

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce (optional)
  • Sea salt, to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bananas: Peel and slice the bananas into 1-inch thick pieces. Lay the slices out on a parchment-lined baking sheet to keep them from sticking.
  2. Assemble Banana Sandwiches: Scoop about a teaspoon of creamy peanut butter onto half of the banana slices. Top each with another banana slice to form a sandwich.
  3. Freeze Banana Sandwiches: Place the baking sheet with the banana sandwiches in the freezer for about 1 hour, or until the sandwiches are firm and easy to handle.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate chips by heating in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  5. Dip Sandwiches in Chocolate: Dip each frozen banana sandwich into the melted chocolate, coating them evenly to cover the peanut butter and banana completely.
  6. Add Nuts and Optional Toppings: Immediately sprinkle chopped nuts over the chocolate coating before it hardens. Drizzle caramel sauce on top and sprinkle with sea salt if desired for extra flavor complexity.
  7. Final Freeze: Return the chocolate-coated banana sandwiches to the parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for another hour to allow the chocolate to harden and the treat to be fully set before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm bananas for best texture and easier handling.
  • Dark chocolate chips can be substituted with semi-sweet or milk chocolate depending on preference.
  • The caramel sauce and sea salt are optional but highly recommended for enhanced flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 week.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the nuts and use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter.
