Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk or buttermilk
- Optional: powdered sugar or vanilla glaze for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch square baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with dry, mixing just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool slightly before serving warm, or let cool completely before adding powdered sugar or glaze.
Notes
- Add mini chocolate chips, berries, or chopped nuts to the batter.
- Substitute some vanilla with almond extract for variation.
- Make a simple glaze with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for topping.
- Store at room temp for 3 days or in the fridge for 5 days.
