Ingredients
- 2 lb bone-in or boneless chicken pieces
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 3/4 cup milk or heavy cream
Instructions
- Season the chicken evenly with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Lightly dredge the chicken in flour, shaking off any excess.
- Heat the vegetable oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Brown the chicken on both sides until golden, then remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Stir in the garlic and remaining flour, cooking for about 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk, stirring constantly to form a smooth gravy.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 35–40 minutes until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
Notes
- Chicken thighs provide extra juiciness.
- Add mushrooms or a pinch of cayenne for variation.
- Use heavy cream for a richer gravy.
