Description

Ingredients

  • 2 lb bone-in or boneless chicken pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup milk or heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken evenly with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Lightly dredge the chicken in flour, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Brown the chicken on both sides until golden, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
  6. Stir in the garlic and remaining flour, cooking for about 1 minute.
  7. Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk, stirring constantly to form a smooth gravy.
  8. Return the chicken to the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 35–40 minutes until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

  • Chicken thighs provide extra juiciness.
  • Add mushrooms or a pinch of cayenne for variation.
