Description
Sour Cream and Onion Chicken is a creamy, tangy, and comforting baked dish made with juicy chicken and a savory sour cream-onion sauce. It’s a nostalgic flavor turned into a hearty meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 packet onion soup mix (or 1 tbsp onion powder + 1 tbsp dried minced onion)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for greasing or searing)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil or butter.
- Season the chicken with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- In a bowl, mix sour cream with the onion soup mix (or onion powder and dried minced onion).
- Spread a small amount of the sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Place the seasoned chicken in the dish and spoon the remaining sauce over the top to coat the chicken completely.
- Bake uncovered for 30–40 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce is bubbling.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- Add shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese to the sauce for a richer flavor.
- Top with crushed sour cream and onion chips before baking for extra crunch.
- Mix in sautéed mushrooms or spinach for added veggies.
- Greek yogurt can replace sour cream for a tangier twist.
- Use a splash of milk or broth when reheating to keep the sauce creamy.
