Description

Soft, pillowy cinnamon rolls infused with classic gingerbread spices and molasses, finished with a creamy cream cheese frosting for a cozy and festive treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm. Stir in yeast and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and let sit until foamy.
  2. Mix in melted butter, egg, molasses, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread with softened butter.
  7. Mix brown sugar with spices and sprinkle evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll tightly, slice into rolls, and place in a greased baking dish.
  9. Let rolls rise again until puffy.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes until lightly golden.
  11. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  12. Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

  • Dough can be prepared the night before and refrigerated.
  • Avoid adding too much flour to keep rolls soft.
  • Rolls freeze well without frosting.
  • Best served warm.
