Description

Six Minute Caramels are buttery, chewy homemade candies made in the microwave with no thermometer required. They’re quick, foolproof, and perfect for gifting or enjoying as a sweet treat anytime.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line or grease an 8×8-inch dish with parchment paper or butter.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk.
  3. Microwave on high for 6 minutes, stopping to stir every 2 minutes. Bubbling is normal. Adjust time slightly if needed based on microwave strength.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and optional salt.
  5. Pour hot caramel into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
  6. Let cool at room temperature 1–2 hours until firm.
  7. Cut into squares and wrap in wax paper for storage or gifting.

Notes

  • Sprinkle with sea salt for salted caramels.
  • Add bourbon, maple, or vanilla bean paste for flavor variations.
  • Dip cooled caramels in chocolate for a decadent twist.
  • Roll in chopped nuts or crushed candy for a festive treat.
  • Microwave times vary—adjust if too soft or too firm.
