Description

A warm, sweet, and slightly tart dessert filled with juicy pears and mixed berries, topped with a golden, buttery oat crumble. Perfect for cozy gatherings or a comforting treat any time of year.

Ingredients

  • Ripe pears, peeled and sliced
  • Mixed berries (fresh or frozen—blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or strawberries)
  • 12 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar (white or brown)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or flour (to thicken)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • For the crumble topping:
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced pears and berries with lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  3. Spread the fruit mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  7. Let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving to let the juices thicken.

Notes

  • Can add chopped nuts like pecans or almonds to the topping for extra crunch.
  • Apples can be mixed with pears for a fall variation.
  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of maple syrup to the fruit mixture.
  • Use certified gluten-free oats and a gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free version.
  • Swap butter for coconut oil or vegan butter for a dairy-free version.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat in the oven for best topping texture.
