Description

Mouthwatering Crock Pot Beef and Broccoli is a homemade takeout‑style dish where thinly sliced beef simmers slowly in a savory, slightly sweet garlic‑soy sauce until tender, then fresh broccoli is added at the end for crisp‑tender bite. Served over rice or noodles, it’s a comforting, flavorful dinner that practically cooks itself.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce (low‑sodium optional)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (to thicken sauce)
  • Fresh broccoli florets (about 3–4 cups)
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
  • Optional garnish: sesame seeds and sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Place the sliced beef in the crock pot and pour the sauce over it, stirring to coat evenly.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2.5–3 hours, until beef is tender.
  4. About 30 minutes before serving, whisk cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold water until smooth; stir into the crock pot to thicken the sauce.
  5. Add broccoli florets, cover again, and cook for an additional 20–30 minutes until broccoli is tender‑crisp and bright green.
  6. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • You can add extra vegetables like sliced carrots, snap peas, or baby corn for variety.
  • Use gluten‑free soy sauce (tamari) to make the dish gluten‑free.
  • If you like heat, stir in a teaspoon of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes with the sauce.
  • For a richer flavor, replace part of the beef broth with hoisin sauce or oyster sauce.
  • Frozen broccoli can be used — add it during the last 15–20 minutes and watch the texture carefully to avoid overcooking.
