Description

Layered Cheeseburger French Fry Casserole is a cheesy, meaty comfort food bake that brings all the flavors of a cheeseburger—with crispy fries on top—in one satisfying dish. Perfect for weeknights, game days, or potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 1 bag (about 20 oz) frozen French fries
  • Optional toppings: diced pickles, chopped tomatoes, crumbled bacon, green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Drain grease.
  3. Stir in garlic, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook 2 more minutes and remove from heat.
  4. In a bowl, mix cheddar cheese soup and milk until smooth. Stir in half the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Layer beef mixture in the bottom of the baking dish.
  6. Pour cheese sauce over the beef and spread evenly.
  7. Arrange frozen French fries in a single layer on top.
  8. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until fries are golden and crisp.
  9. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and bake 5–10 minutes more until melted and bubbly.
  10. Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Add optional toppings if desired.

Notes

  • Add crumbled bacon for a bacon cheeseburger version.
  • Swap fries with tater tots for a fun twist.
  • Stir chopped pickles or jalapeños into the beef layer for more flavor.
  • Broil the top for extra crispy fries.
  • Best served fresh; fries may soften when reheated.
