Description

Korean Beef is a quick, savory-sweet skillet meal made with ground beef simmered in a flavorful soy-garlic-ginger sauce and finished with sesame oil and green onions. It delivers classic Korean BBQ-inspired flavor in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce (or low-sodium)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • Cooked white or brown rice, for serving
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned.
  2. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Pour the sauce over the beef and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Simmer for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in sliced green onions.
  7. Serve hot over cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add steamed broccoli or shredded carrots for extra vegetables.
  • Serve in lettuce cups for a low-carb version.
  • Top with a fried egg for a rice-bowl style meal.
  • Use tamari or coconut aminos to make it gluten-free.
