Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon white vinegar
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Optional cream cheese swirl:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs, red food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar; whisk until fully combined and creamy.
- Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir gently until just combined—do not overmix.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- For the cream cheese swirl (if using): beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth. Drop spoonfuls on top of the batter and swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool completely in the pan, then lift out and slice into squares.
Notes
- Dust cooled brownies with powdered sugar or drizzle with white chocolate instead of cream cheese swirl.
- Add white or dark chocolate chips to the batter for extra richness.
- Top with festive sprinkles before baking for a celebratory twist.
- For clean cuts, chill before slicing and wipe knife between each cut.
