Description

Homemade Honey Buns are soft, sweet rolls swirled with buttery cinnamon sugar and topped with a warm vanilla honey glaze. These irresistible treats are like a cross between cinnamon rolls and glazed donuts—perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • For the dough:
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • For the filling:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp honey (optional)
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp honey

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix in eggs, butter, and salt. Gradually add flour, kneading until dough is smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with mixer).
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, 1–1.5 hours.
  4. Roll dough into a rectangle on floured surface. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture, and drizzle with honey if using.
  5. Roll up tightly from the long edge and cut into 12 buns. Place on greased baking sheet.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden.
  8. While baking, mix glaze ingredients until smooth.
  9. Brush warm buns with glaze immediately after baking.

Notes

  • Add a touch of nutmeg for extra spice in the filling.
  • Use maple syrup instead of honey for a twist.
  • Make mini versions by slicing thinner rolls.
  • Prepare dough the night before and refrigerate.
  • Store in airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
