Description

A rich and fruity homemade blueberry syrup made with simple ingredients, offering a sweet-tart flavor perfect for pancakes, desserts, or drinks.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add blueberries, sugar, and water to a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries soften and release their juices (about 5–7 minutes).
  3. Gently mash the berries with a spoon to help create a smoother consistency.
  4. Stir in the lemon juice and continue simmering for another 5–8 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly.
  5. If a smooth texture is desired, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract if using.
  7. Remove from heat and allow to cool before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Use frozen blueberries without thawing for convenience.
  • Simmer longer for a thicker syrup consistency.
  • Strain for a smooth syrup or leave as is for a chunkier texture.
  • Add other berries like raspberries or strawberries for variation.
  • A pinch of cinnamon can add a warm flavor twist.
