Ingredients
- 1 ball pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni, cooked sausage, or veggies (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried oregano
- Flour, for dusting
- Optional: fresh basil, red pepper flakes, grated parmesan for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or knife to cut out heart shapes.
- Place the heart-shaped dough pieces on the baking sheet. Brush lightly with olive oil and bake for 3–5 minutes to partially cook the crusts.
- Remove from the oven and spread a small amount of pizza sauce on each heart.
- Top with shredded mozzarella and your favorite toppings.
- Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or oregano, then return to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 6–8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- Remove from oven, garnish as desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use pesto or Alfredo sauce for variety.
- Try dessert versions with Nutella and fruit.
- Make quick versions on flatbreads, tortillas, or English muffins.
- To make ahead, par-bake the crusts and refrigerate or freeze until ready to top and bake.
- Great for parties — serve with dipping sauces or as part of a pizza bar.
