These homemade doughnuts are soft, fluffy, and golden-fried to perfection, coated with sugar or glaze for the ultimate sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar or glaze (optional, for coating)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp of sugar and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or round cutters.
- Place cut doughnuts on a floured tray, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry doughnuts in batches until golden brown on each side (about 1-2 minutes per side).
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Coat in sugar or glaze while warm.
Notes
- Ensure oil is at the right temperature to avoid greasy doughnuts.
- You can fill doughnuts with jam, custard, or chocolate if desired.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
