Description

Country Fried Chicken is a beloved Southern classic featuring juicy, marinated chicken pieces fried to crispy golden perfection in a seasoned flour crust. It’s comforting, flavorful, and perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 46 bone-in chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks, or breasts)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken in buttermilk for at least 4 hours or overnight in the fridge.
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs.
  3. In a separate shallow dish, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne (if using).
  4. Remove chicken from buttermilk, dip in egg, then dredge in seasoned flour mixture, pressing firmly to coat.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry chicken in batches for 12–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Drain on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot.

  • DIY buttermilk: mix 2 cups milk with 2 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar.
