Description

Cheesy egg toast is a quick, satisfying breakfast made with golden toast, melty cheese, and a perfectly cooked egg. It’s easy, customizable, and ready in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice thick-cut bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or blend)
  • 1 tsp butter or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped herbs, red pepper flakes, sliced avocado, cooked bacon

Instructions

  1. Lightly toast bread if using soft slices.
  2. Press down the center of the bread to form a shallow well.
  3. Sprinkle cheese around the edges, leaving space in the center.
  4. Crack an egg into the center. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Place prepared toast in the skillet. Cover and cook for 4–6 minutes, until egg is set to your liking.
  7. Remove from skillet, garnish as desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use a bagel or English muffin instead of regular bread for variety.
  • Add sliced tomatoes, spinach, or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Top with sriracha or hot sauce for a spicy twist.
  • Layer ham or smoked salmon under the egg for a protein boost.
  • Bake at 375°F for 10–12 minutes as an alternative to stovetop cooking.
