Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 cans (15 oz each) baked beans
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 bell pepper (chopped), 1/2 cup bacon bits, 1/2 cup shredded cheese (for topping)
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Add chopped onion and garlic and cook until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft.
- Drain excess grease, then stir in baked beans, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- If using, add bell pepper or bacon bits for extra flavor.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and smooth the top.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, until bubbly and slightly thickened. If adding cheese, sprinkle it on during the last 10 minutes of baking.
Notes
- This casserole serves about 6–8 people.
- For a lighter version, try ground turkey or sausage instead of beef.
- For a Tex-Mex flavor, add chili powder, cumin, and top with cheddar and jalapeños.
- A cornbread or biscuit topping can make this dish even heartier.
- Stirring in cooked rice or pasta can help stretch servings further.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. It also freezes well for up to 2 months.
