Description

Baked beans and ground beef casserole is a hearty, comforting dish that combines smoky-sweet baked beans with savory ground beef, all baked together into a bubbling, flavorful meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) baked beans
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 bell pepper (chopped), 1/2 cup bacon bits, 1/2 cup shredded cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic and cook until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft.
  3. Drain excess grease, then stir in baked beans, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. If using, add bell pepper or bacon bits for extra flavor.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and smooth the top.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, until bubbly and slightly thickened. If adding cheese, sprinkle it on during the last 10 minutes of baking.

Notes

  • This casserole serves about 6–8 people.
  • For a lighter version, try ground turkey or sausage instead of beef.
  • For a Tex-Mex flavor, add chili powder, cumin, and top with cheddar and jalapeños.
  • A cornbread or biscuit topping can make this dish even heartier.
  • Stirring in cooked rice or pasta can help stretch servings further.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. It also freezes well for up to 2 months.
