Description

Applesauce cake is moist, spiced, and comforting — a simple dessert that tastes like fall in every bite. Made with pantry staples and naturally sweetened with applesauce, it’s a cozy treat perfect for snacking or serving with coffee.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Unsweetened applesauce
  • Granulated sugar or brown sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil or melted butter
  • Vanilla extract
  • Optional: chopped nuts, raisins, or powdered sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or square baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix applesauce, sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Stir dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chopped nuts or raisins if using.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Swap oil for more applesauce for a lighter version.
  • Top with cream cheese frosting or brown sugar glaze for a richer dessert.
  • Add spices like cloves or ginger for extra warmth.
  • Store at room temperature, in the fridge, or freeze individual slices.
  • Great baked as muffins (18–20 minutes in muffin tins).
