Description

Apple crumb cake is a moist, tender cake layered with sweet-tart apples and topped with a buttery cinnamon crumble. It’s a cozy, spiced treat perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (cake)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup plant-based milk or dairy milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (crumb topping)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square or round baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, oil (or butter), and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix just until combined.
  5. Fold in chopped apples gently and spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. For the crumb topping, combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use tart, firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best flavor and texture.
  • Add chopped nuts to the crumb topping for extra crunch.
  • A drizzle of glaze (powdered sugar + milk) makes it extra special.
  • Substitute some milk with yogurt or sour cream for a richer cake.
  • Store covered at room temperature for 2 days, or refrigerate up to 5 days.
