Description

Air Fryer Crispy Onions are a light, crunchy topping perfect for casseroles, salads, and more. Made with minimal oil, these onions deliver bold flavor and satisfying texture without deep frying.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium yellow or sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp paprika or garlic powder (optional)
  • Olive oil spray or avocado oil spray

Instructions

  1. Slice onions thinly and separate into rings.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch (if using), salt, and optional seasoning.
  3. Toss onion slices in the flour mixture until well coated.
  4. Spray lightly with oil and toss again to coat evenly.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
  6. Place onions in air fryer basket in a loose, even layer. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Air fry for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  8. Transfer to a wire rack to cool and firm up.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline for even, thin slices for best results.
  • Avoid overcrowding the basket to ensure crispiness.
  • Cool on a wire rack to prevent sogginess.
  • Reheat in air fryer at 300°F for 3–4 minutes if needed.
